We’re looking for speakers to share their knowledge, skill, experience and stories within our welcoming community at WordCamp Zurich on 14th September 2019. Whether you’re a first-time speaker or experienced at conference talks, we’d love to hear from you.
The call for speakers has been closed: the schedule is available here.
WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences that focus on everything WordPress. These non-profit events are organized by people from within the community on a voluntary basis.
All topics and ideas are welcome: we only ask that you follow the following guidelines when choosing your topic.
- Your proposal should be related to WordPress, or immediately applicable and relevant to our WordPress audience.
- Your proposal should be respectful of the WordPress community, the WordCamp code of conduct, and the GPL.
WordCamps are 100% organized and staffed by volunteers, so we’re not able pay speakers or cover speaker travel/accommodations. All speakers will receive a ticket to the event and be invited to the social event in the evening of Friday, 13th September.
If you need help covering the travel costs you can apply for support from DonateWC or the Yoast Diversity Fund.
Format
Lightning talk: 10 minutes, without a question round.
Long-form talk: 35 minutes in total, broken down to around 30 minutes for the talk and 5 minutes for questions at the end.
Panel: 30 minutes of discussion amongst up to four people, all answering questions from the audience about a specific topic.
Topics
We welcome a diverse lineup of speakers to provide value to our broad audience. This year we would love to receive proposals across a range of different topics. Here are a few suggestions and ideas.
- Different perspectives and experiences from users, content writers and managers.
- Integrating accessibility into projects.
- Advances in PHP and how that affects WordPress.
- React and JavaScript best practices.
- Design and User Experience.
Language
You are welcome to give your talk either in German or English – it’s up to you. Your talk may reach a wider audience if you present in English, as we expect to welcome attendees from all over Switzerland and from the rest of Europe.
Submission deadline
The deadline for speaker submissions is Sunday, 28th July 2019 Sunday, 4th August 2019, at midnight. We will inform all applicants by Friday, 9th August whether their proposal has been accepted or not.
Apply as a speaker
Do you have a topic you’d like to talk about? Great! We’re looking for a diverse speaker submission pool. Both new and experienced conference speakers are very welcome to apply. We are planning to offer coaching for first time speakers, so get in touch if you’d like to know more.
Don’t be shy!
You don’t need to be an expert, a programmer or a designer to submit a proposal! All we ask is that you be able to present your chosen topic passionately and respectfully.
Let us know in the application if there is anything that we can help you with.
